A wife's eulogy for her husband's funeral:

"Norman needed a blood transfusion, but his blood type was not on record, so the doctors asked me if I new what it was. They urgently needed to know to save Norman's life. Tragically, I had never known his blood type, so I only had time to sit and say goodbye.
I will never forget how supportive my Norman was. Even as he was failing away, he kept on whispering to me, "Be Positive, be positive!"
That was my Norman. Always thinking of others."

Story
Jamesi Sutherland and Compassionate Heart Home Care
R Jeff introduced Jamesi:

Jamesi Sutherland is a Registered Nurse with over 12 years of experience in Neurology and Neuroscience nursing. Throughout her career, she has provided care for patients with various neurological disorders including Parkinson’s Disease, Dystonia, Tremors, and various forms of Dementia. She has served in various roles such as Epilepsy Monitoring Unit Nurse Coordinator, Deep Brain Stimulation Nurse, and Implementation Science Manager. Coupled with her passion for health care, she has a strong interest in business management and leadership which has led her to complete a Master of Business Administration in Leadership from Dalhousie University. As a resident of Northumberland County, Jamesi is very passionate about increasing accessibility to care for seniors in Northumberland County.

Jamesi shared her story, growing up  in Guyana in a small town of about 250 to 300 people outside George Town. She spent a lot of time with her grandmother, who helped the sick with meals and other tasks. Her grandmother wanted to be a nurse but the education was too expensive. At her grandmother's side was the beginning of her community service.

At 16 she moved to Canada. Her interests and strengths were science and agriculture. She initially was leaning to agriculture but school suggested more opportunities in science. With support from her parents she went into nursing getting her first degree from Ryerson.

The desire to own her business. This seed was planted as a child when she was encouraged to grow food and sell it in her village as a child.

She always had a keen interest to learn. After graduating as a nurse, she started at Toronto Western where she worked in several areas. She was passionate about her work and interested in taking a leadership role and was soon in charge of an Epilepsy ward expansion from 5 to 10 beds. She became the lead for the diagnostic unit for movement disorders, including brain stimulus specialty.

She was able to expand her knowledge and teach through an association of Nurses that allowed her to teach locally and abroad in Chile and Jamaica.

She got an MBA to expand her leadership skills.

Her husband travels for work along the 401 corridor as far at Kingston. She was working from home so in 2022 they moved to Brighton from Whitby.

Through connections with other nurses from London to Belleville, she helped a co-worker apply for clinic in Wellington. She saw a glaring need to home care and prepared a 20 page application and business case to Northumberland Business fund. She was successful and opened Compassionate Heart Home Care in Cobourg July 11, 2023.

She has 14 staff and is growing. They focus on Compassion, providing companionship, respite care, and home care tailored to the goals of the individual. Dementia and alzheimer are specialties of Jamesi.

She is committed to the community.
