Brighton Probus Club

THE CLUB'S HISTORY

The Probus Club of Brighton was sponsored by the Rotary Club of Brighton in 2003 thanks to the efforts of three Rotarians, Gord King, Bob Briden and Keith Stainton. Gord King was the first president of the new club. It became an instant success with over 150 Brightonians applying for membership. Unlike Rotary which is involved in both local and international projects, the Probus Club of Brighton is a social network that does not have mandatory attendance rules and does not actively involve itself in fund raising. The Club Number is 146 within Ontario District Number 1.

PURPOSE

The purpose of the Probus Club of Brighton is to make new friends and to stimulate thought, interest and participation in activities among seniors. It is non-political, non-sectarian, non-profit making and non-fundraising organization for retired men and women. The emphasis of the club is simple in structure, free of the constraints and obligations of service clubs. The club primarily provides fellowship between the members who are compatible with each other, and provides an environment for the development of acquaintance.
