ENSS Threads Update
R Dan introduced Martha Warren. A teacher at ENSS since 1999 in the Social Studies and Humanities Program.
Martha expressed her thanks to Brighton Rotary for the support. Both financial support and the donations.
Threads is very dear to Martha. It began when on lunch duty she noticed some students off on their own, not participating, outsiders, alone.
So Martha invited them to her classroom. She created a warm and welcoming room where any student and come and feel welcome, to share problems. It started with about 1/2 dozen students and has grown to about 150 who use it. She is called the school's mom.
She provides a hot lunch once a week, usually on Wednesday. sometimes line up at her door longer that at cafeteria. She has student volunteers who help. Students and teachers support the program. She has muffins and juice available on the other days of the week.
At Christmas she has created a table of free things that students can take as gifts for others. Those who can't afford to buy something for a loved one or friend. She has wrapping paper.
She passed around pictures of her class, table of gifts, lunch table etc.
She will accept any gift, either at the school or at her home at 58 Dundas Street.
