Smile: blush

Reaching the end of a job interview, the Human Resources Manager asked the young engineer fresh out of university, "And what starting salary were you looking for?"
The engineer said, "In the neighborhood of $125,000 a year, depending on the benefit's package."
The HR Manager said, "Well, what would you say to a package of $200,000 a year, 5 weeks vacation, 14 paid holidays, full medical and dental coverage, company matching retirement fund to 50% of salary, and a company car leased every 2 years — say, a red Mercedes?"
The engineer sat up straight and said, "Wow!!! Are you joking?"
HR Manager says, "Of course, ...but you started it."

As old trophy was full and due to unique nature, putting new base on bottom was problem so all old winners were put on one large plaque at back and we have started with new 2020 virtual winner, the Rotary Club of Oshawa with new plaque on front. We will have to figure out way to make presentation, possibly in conjunction with District Conference and think about 2021 Interclub and singing contest.
Upcoming Rotary Events:
  • 2020 Rotary District Conference theme is 'Heroes and Champions' and will be now April 9 to 11, 2021, at Pan Pacific Toronto (formerly Weston Prince Hotel). District is working on how to move forward with this event, possibly some 'in person' events and virtually.
  • Tuesday Talks Feb 9 via Zoom. 'Understanding Your Conflict Management Style' with guest Gayle Oudeh. Find out how to resolve conflicts more effectively. Go to District 7070 website to register.
  • Rotary Great Lakes Watershed Cleanup April 24, 2021. Join 15 Districts and 500 clubs. Consider cleaning up along Butler Creek in Brighton.
  • Celebrating Women in Rotary D7070 March 8, 2021. District looking to form a committee to recognize and celebrate International Women's Day March 8.
  • New Rotary Members Zoom Gettogether Feb 18, 2021. Lots of interesting things about Rotary so join, share and learn. This is of particular interest to new Rotarian's less then 2 years in Rotary. Go to D7070 website and register.

Rotary Minute:
Information and request for continued support of Polio eradication   Great news, at the recent meeting of 7070 district Foundation meeting, it was reported that all 55 out of our 55 clubs have submitted goals in MyRotary for polio eradication for a total of $ 62,000!   So far, 16 clubs have surpassed their goal for polio eradication, 15 have not donated anything YTD, and 15 are still working on their goal of at least $1,500 USD as a minimum (as per Rotary International request).  As we near the half-way point in the Rotary year, let’s strive to meet these goals.  For those clubs that have surpassed their goal – thank you!  Perhaps there is an opportunity to donate a bit more!   https://www.rotary.org/en/donate   The request by the board of Rotary International  and the Foundation board of trustees is that every club to donate $1,500 USD  ($1,921CAD) as a minimum. Remember that for every dollar donated the Gates foundation will match 2 to one so $1,500 dollars becomes $4,500 dollars. If you need support or would like someone to come to your club to speak about polio eradication or other Foundation topics, please contact me! Here is an interesting article about polio to share with your club members: Drive against polio begins as Covid  cases cross 500,000 mark 285,000 workers to vaccinate 40m children against polio Strict health protocols to be observed NCOC reports over 2,800 single day cases, 46 deaths These are the headlines in Dawn, the Pakistan daily English newspaper, today January 11th, 2021. They remind us that despite the 2800 Covid 19 reported cases the eradication program of polio must continue. Initially the polio program was paused at the beginning of the Covid 19 pandemic except for surveillance. However, vaccination has been restarted under as the headline states strict protocols and in August the African continent was certified polio free a tremendous  accomplishment.

ENSS Threads in Pandemic
R Chris introduced Martha Warren:

Martha lives in Brighton across the road from ENSS where she teaches and runs THREADS, a social help program for students in need from her classroom.

Martha is truly dedicated to the students. She continues to operate THREADS although in a limited and reduced capacity due to COVID restrictions to keep everyone safe and healthy.

Her reach is limited to her 2 classes, about 50 students. She does suspect that some of those students extend it to friends.

Martha thanked Rotary for our support and donations. Costs are borne by Martha and not the board. With some recent funds she helped a particular family with Christmas as  well as some gift cards for some students in need.

Prior to COVID she would see 150 students through her class during lunch on Wednesday for snacks etc. No more.

She continues to do what she can to help students in need. She bakes and has a limited sharing program. Recently she received an Insta Pot as donation, then a student asked about help for Christmas gift for father who likes to cook. The Insta Pot found a home.

Martha is looking for foil lined food containers at reasonable cost.

In past with help from Community Martha organized help / support for kids at their graduation.

Martha can't say no. She loves the students and wants to help and support them in a safe way and also so they don't feel degraded, but of worth.

R Steve thanked Martha for all she does for the ENSS students at ENSS.
