Announcements:.
  • Reach out to Rotarians not getting on line to help them connect.
  • We are having regular Brighton Rotary Zoom meetings each Friday at 8am.
  • POD#1 is responsible for May so we can reach out and try some speakers digitally
  • Diners and Duffers booklets on hold. Committee going out to restaurants and golf clubs asking if they will honour coupons to March 31, 2022, an additional year. Then we will put sticker with change on books and sell when safe to do so. R Chris advised that Whistling Duck okay to extend coupons to March 2021. Barcovan Golf Club has concerns about COVID rules such as only family members can share carts etc.
  • R Joyce shared that Campbellford Rotary are sharing / providing meals from restaurants as their spring fling for $50. The sold 130 so far.
  • For those who missed the Fishing Derby last weekend, Kiwanis may try to hold something in fall if conditions allow. R Murray will follow up and advise.
  • R Chris advised that Applefest has been cancelled for 2020.
  • R Chris advised that Clubs commitment to Foundation is $2,000. Club members have donated $1,125 leaving shortfall of $875. Also club goal for Polio Plus was $400 and member donations is $176 leaving shortfall of $224.
  • Tentative Board meeting Thursday May 14 at 6:30pm at R Clay's patio or via Zoom.
  • R Chris closed club US$ account, only $42 in it transferred to Club's general account.
  • R Joyce purchased year subscription to Zoom for $160.
  • R Chris advised club Golf tournament originally scheduled for June postponed to fall. Taking a wait and see approach.
  • We received cheque from Rotary Club of Colborne for their 50% of Adventures in Citzenship program.
  • Question was raised about President Daniel's hair in this Pandemic and no access to hair salon's. (Did R Jeff P really say that).
Upcoming Rotary Events:
  • 2020 Rotary District Conference theme is 'Heroes and Champions' and will be held at Toronto Weston Prince Hotel October 23-25, 2019.
  • Rotary District 7070 is going to the Dominican Republic March Break 2021. A service opportunity - sweat equity.

Happy Bucks: 75th anniversary of end of war in Europe, happy to participate in 2020 Relay at Home and not walk track for 12 hours, thanks for opportunity to see people (even on line), lucky to live in Canada, Peace Order and Good Governance, need fundraising ideas to keep R Chris happy, manuscript for mom's book sent to editors - it is on it's way, guess who is always happy, new day, at his age nothing can do about it, looking forward to warmer temperatures, Happy Mother's Day, checking out spring flowers in park on dog walks, face time with step son, flowers received for Mother's Day, back to work Monday.

Relay for Life at Home
Karen White if the Volunteer President of the Hastings, Prince Edward and Brighton Cancer Society. She has been involved as a volunteer for the Cancer Society for about 20 years, with never a doubt that what she does and the Cancer Society is doing the right thing. Supporting those and their families with Cancer.
 
 
 
Karen said the traditional Relay for Life event has been cancelled for 2020. In it's place, they are doing Relay at Home. It will be on-line so you can participate and watch from your own hom
Saturday June 13 from 7pm to 9pm.

People can still buy luminaries on line.
 
Cancer Society also cancelled selling of daffodil's this year in person. However, they still raised $3 million digitally.
 
The Cancer Society laid off 300 people.
 
For the 2020 Relay at Home, they have 34 teams hoping to raise $30 to $40,000 this year. She has donations from Rotary Club of Stirling and Trenton.
 
Karen's team is PS I Love You. They have raised $1,000 so far. This is down from other years as many struggle.
 
There is still lots of support for the Canadian Cancer Society.
