Water is life. Safe water protects and saves lives. For my family, water is something we consciously protect and conserve, as we live on a property with well water. Recently we even installed a generator to make sure we have access to water if the power goes out. Think about that. It is so easy to take our access to water for granted when so many have little or no access to clean, drinkable water. If you look through the Rotary Showcase, you will see a plethora of projects around hygiene, sanitation, and creating greater accessibility to clean water. These projects have taken place in just about every corner of the globe. #Life Below Water # Search again and you will also find Environmental projects that range from increasing awareness of plastic in our daily lives to beach clean ups to responsible sourcing of marine life. Upcoming Rotary Events:
Rotary Club of Campbellford Golf Tournament - at Warkworth Golf Course and it will be the 50th Anniversary of the event. Unfortunately, as we are still under the restrictions of Covid, we are unable to plan the usual dinner and social gathering following the day in the field. In fact, at this time, we are unable to employ the “Shotgun” start technique and are forced to revert to Tee Times due to the number of persons allowed to gather. (We are so hoping this restriction is lifted before the event so we can cancel Tee Times and plan on a 10AM Shotgun start on the course). In the meantime, we can only plan for what is currently allowed under the existing rules with T-offs starting at 9:00am (every 10 minutes to avoid congestion at the registration desk – please arrive 20 minutes prior to your t-off time). We will advise you of your T-off time in advance. This year, we have reduced the fees this year down to $100 (or $60 for WCG Members) because no dinner is being planned and instead golfers are being provided with a light lunch and of course, one Tall Boy will be provided. If you would like to play, please consider getting a team of 4 together (or even one or two of you) and register them as per attached form (2nd page). Let’s be sure to get the registrations in asap. The Environmental Action Committee (EAC) for District 7070 was established in the 2020-21 Rotary year to facilitate Rotary’s enhanced focus on environmental sustainability. The overall goal of the Committee is to promote tangible environmental actions by Rotary, Rotaract, and Interact clubs in helping to protect and restore our natural world.

The Buildings Blocks
The term “Environment” is very broad and open to interpretation. It is often viewed through different lenses, e.g.:
Physical elements: land, water, atmosphere and ecosystems
Environmental issues: energy consumption, green house gas emissions, pollution, habitat loss, packaging, plastics, waste, climate change, land degradation, toxics, water quality, etc.
Sources of environmental pressures: transportation, agriculture, urban systems, manufacturing processes, residential/commercial infrastructure, and individual/aggregate use of resources.
Regardless of how we frame the “environment”, protecting and restoring our natural environment requires individual and collaborative actions among all actors within society. At the core of this effort are the local actions within communities. This is where Rotarians, as people of action, will become the agents for bringing about the needed change.

R Clay told us that the UN in 1987 started looking at world population and where we are going. It become an annual review, every July 11th.
The enclosed link is a presentation by Professor Emeritus at UBC and what he talks about is Overshoot. Basically how we are using more of the Earth's resources than is sustainable. We are in boom time and a 'bust' is coming. Our life and population explosion is not sustainable.
We use to much, waste too much, the earth cannot handle it long term and at rate we are going.
People are predisposed to being unsustainable. He says fossil fuels has fueled this overshoot. With fossil fuels we produce more, are able to life over more of the earth and as result the world population has grown exponentially over a relatively short period.
He says the we live out of social constructs of our own making and not reality. That our emotions and passions drive us, not rational thought.
We are in the plague phase (we are the plague). We are the parasite on the earth, and while we may enjoy the boom we are in now, it will end. It is not sustainable.
