Brighton Fire Department Presentation
 
R Ricardo introduced Fire Chief Rick Caddick:
 
Rick has been in Brighton 4 years, previously from Stirling. He started as a volunteer. He worked as a funeral director but with fire department he worked up to Deputy Chief.
 
Jeff has been a volunteer with Brighton Fire Department for 22 years. He became Deputy Chief May 2018.
The Brighton District Fire Department changed their name to Brighton Fire and Rescue.
 
They average 425 calls a year. They do a lot of medical calls. They have 37 members / volunteers.
 
Station #1 in town and station #2 is in Codrington. They are well equipped for vehicles and rescue equipment such as jaws of life. They now have water rescue capability. They work with the local Coast Guard Auxiliary.
 
They have a new dispatch system thru Northumberland County - one centre in Peterborough. Does whole county. It has a phone locate system. Mutual aid arrangements to neighbouring departments to provide faster service.
 
Jeff said new volunteers get 300 yours training to be qualified, plus specialized training Tuesday evenings 2 to 3 hours including truck checks.
 
They can be called out any time, sometimes they miss family events.
 
Accredited for 200 gal/min for 2 hours. Involves large portable reservoirs that tankers fill up.
 
Recently acquired rescue boat. It blows up and can handle 14 people. Open end goes over victim, pull up into boat.
 
Smoke detectors last 10 years, then should be replaced.
 
Emily Project. Special signs for fields, to locate victims in rural settings such as farm fields.
 
Also have notifications system for emergencies.
 
They also work with CN / CP to deal with problems on railway tracks.
 
 
Service Above Self
