October 21 will be World Polio Day. It was approved that we purchase an End Polio Now flag and ask the Municipality to fly it on the day.
October 21 all clubs asked to cancel regular meetings for the week and attend virtual End Polio Now presentation via Zoom at 7pm.
Brighton Rotary are registered to participate in Rotary Youth Exchange for 2022 / 2023. We are looking for host families and a student. District is organizing to promote at schools virtually.

In the first of two Tuesday Talks, you will learn what we, Rotarians, can do to solve water, sanitation & hygiene problems and how Rotarians can change this dynamic to ensure sustainable, effective water or sanitation systems that serv communities forever. In Ron's words: Despite billions of dollars spent on water and sanitation, and hundreds of millions of hours building toilets, drilling boreholes and digging wells, the world is little better off than in the year 2000 when the nations of the world committed to reducing by half the proportion of people without access to safe water and sanitation. The numbers are striking: Almost a billion people lack access to safe water. Polluted streams, bacteria laden ponds, unclean containers, broken pipes are the reality in too many countries And over two billion lack access to safe sanitation. Open defecation, broken toilets, no privacy for the girls;-this is the lot for one third of the world’s population. The consequences are critical. 8000 people, mostly children, die every day from unsafe water. Billions of hours lost to sickness and disease. Women and children spend up to 6 hours a day hauling water. Girls miss classes, drop out of school. Even worse they suffer from assault, violence and even abduction. Fortunately Rotarians are doing something about it-digging wells, drilling boreholes, supplying filters, building latrines, installing hand-washing faciities. But, much of our effort is in vain. Our projects are not sustainable. Water systems no longer function. Toilets are vandalized. In the first of the Tuesday Talks learn what we can do to solve this problem. My name is Danielle Saunders and my son Marrek Hennessy has made a U15 AAA hockey team. All players have been asked to look for sponsorship. I thought I would reach out to the brighton rotary as the Hennessy family has always been connected to the rotary and the Brighton community. Marrek has played Brighton hockey for years but has now moved to a more competitive level of game. His hope is to one day play at the university level. I am not sure if you offer sponsorships etc but if you do I can forward the letter outlining the details as I am not sure how to attach it to this form. District 7070 Rotary Club of G.O.A.L.S. is organizing a one-day D7070 Rotary softball tournament next summer. Clubs could enter their own team, or create a joint team (i.e. members from 2, 3, 4 clubs join together to form a team). I could also take individuals and create a team. It could be open to family members of club members. Saturday or Sunday. Co-ed. Three-pitch (i.e. pitch to your own team). No sliding. Recreational. Fun!! Oshawa/Whitby area. Right now Rotarian Mark Blackmore is trying to gauge interest to determine if it is worthwhile to organize. Happy Bucks: just happy about anything, ditto, speaker and all the good work of the Salvation Army, during exercises in Germany they appreciated the Salvation Army canteen van and the older lady who looked after it, wonderful presentation, going to dinner theater, Salvation Army coming back to support programs in Brighton, big barn dance party.

First Project of World's First Service Club

The first service project of the first Rotary Club was the installation of public toilets in Chicago in 1917. This project made Rotary the World's First Service Club.

Rotary's primary motto is "Service Above Self."

There's a secondary motto: "One profits most who serves best."

There are more than 1.2 Million Rotarians all over the world in more than 35,000 Rotary Clubs in more than 200 countries in all geographic areas.

The first women joined Rotary in 1987. Today, more than 196,000 women are members of Rotary International. Rudy noted that the women do most of the work.

The Rotary Foundation Ambassadorial Scholarships are the world's largest, privately-funded scholarships.

The first Rotaract Club was formed in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Professional Background

Spent most of my career in investment banking with BMO Capital Markets in Toronto. In 2011, moved to Ecuador with my family. From 2012 to 2019, I worked for a small Canadian engineering consulting firm part of a consortium working on a waste water treatment plant in Guayaquil, Ecuador.

Presently work as a Financial Securities Advisor for a large multinational insurance company.

I am also one of the founders and shareholders of Infinite Harvest Technologies Inc. (www.infiniteharvesttech.com). Infinite Harvest Technologies transforms organic waste into animal feed/protein, using Black Soldier Fly Larvae. We are launching our first commercial size production facilities in the regions of Quindio, in Colombia, and Maule in Chile.

Goals and Aspirations

Professional - To make Infinite Harvest Technologies into a major supplier of animal protein/feed, globally.

Personal - Best dad in the world to my two kids

Impressive and Relevant Achievements

Under 16 Canadian National Soccer Team which played in the Under 16 World Cup in Mexico (1985). Made it to the cut of 32.

In 1987 was awarded a Fellowship by Cornell University to complete my undergraduate studies there.

Although I have never fished, I can skin, de-gut and fillet fished.

The Salvation Army

This will be my 3rd year as Christmas Kettle Coordinator with The Salvation Army, Cobourg Church. I have absolutely loved my experience and have been touched by the stories I have heard from different people whose lives have been affected by The Salvation Army.

Yuri presented with a power point presentation which is attached.

Yuri was introduced to the Salvation Army while he and the family were living in Ecuador when an earthquake occurred and the Salvation Army were the first on the ground with support for the people.

Yuri got involved with the Salvation Army and has been impressed by the stories people tell of the support and work of the Salvation Army in their lives. These people remembered the support and work in their lives and as a result continue to support the Salvation Army today.

The Salvation Army work for the Soul.

The Salvation Army Church in Cobourg has offices in Cobourg and Port Hope. Due to the closure of the Trenton offices of the Salvation Army, the Cobourg Church is looking to expand to service Brighton and Campbellford.

94 cents of each dollar raised in a community stays in the community. They are looking to organize kettle campaigns in Brighton and Campbellford this Christmas season. The Salvation Army is set up like a corporation with a CEO and Clerics at the local level. the CEO only makes about $400,000 and they have minimal staff.

The Salvation Army has a relationship with Rotary in Port Hope and Cobourg and R Joyce has volunteered to be a liason with the Salvation Army and Brighton Rotary.

Services they offer include:

Health Bank - Low income households who need emergency prescriptions, dental and optical needs which are not covered by government programs can receive assistance through the Health Bank Program.

Rent, Utilities and household Repairs assistance

Christmas Assistance in conjunction with the Giving Tree providing gift cards and food to low income families
