Stories
ENSS from Principal Charlotte Filip

R Daphne introduced Charlotte. R Daphne taught Charlotte at ENSS before Charlotte graduated and went into her own career as a teacher to come back and be the Principal at ENSS.

Charlotte graduated from ENSS in 1988. She has been teaching for 26 years, 7 as a principal at the elementary and high school levels. She jumped at chance to come back to ENSS. ENSS strength comes from strong community support.

She remembers her first day at ENSS as a grade 9 student from Colborne Public School. She studied Physical Education at Queens, teachers college in 1993 and hired by Kawartha Pine Ridge School Board.

She had a son. Spent a year teaching in India at a Canadian International School. After a year she came back and was a VP at ENSS, then 2 years at other schools before returning to ENSS as principal.

Charlotte talked of the big changes in teaching, especially cell phones and how connected the kids are.

The kids are very connected to the school, they get lots of support from excellent staff who do a lot for the students. Focus now is on 21st Century learning. Current generation knows world with internet.

The well being of students is very important. They as why a student is stressed or anxious. Staff are encouraged to connect with students, to make them feel included.

New awareness of Indigenous issues being brought into curriculum and activities. They have Indigenous awareness day with presentations and work shops.

ENSS track and field program is very successful, typically over 100 students participate. They are looking to replace old jerseys.

Nutrition program at the school is very important. Always looking for support. Community volunteers provide breakfast, also provide food voucher quietly.

April 4 or 5th visiting students from Tanzania will be at ENSS. Still working out details so date not yet confirmed. Rotarians are welcome to come.
