Brian and his wife LeeAnne would like to turn their adventure into a fundraiser, supporting the Canada-Mathare Education Trust. 10.Councillor Emily Rowley asked if we, and the Lions, would be interested in providing food during their movie night on August 17. They’re looking at showing the movie Grease, and have a 50s and 60s car show. The community events committee is meeting next week and hope to be able to add us to the list of participants. They’ll provide more details after the meeting. Supply and sell event.

Smile: blush

One morning three Newfoundlander's and three Albertans were in a ticket counter line at a train station. The three Albertans each bought a ticket and watched as the three Newfoundlanders bought just one ticket.
'How are the three of you going to travel on only one ticket?' asked one of the Albertans.
'Be watchin and learnin.' answered one of the Newfies.
All six boarded the train where the three Albertans sat down, but the three Newfies crammed into a toilet together and closed the door.
Shortly after the train departed and the conductor came around to collect the tickets.
He knocked on the toilet door and said, 'Ticket please.'
The door opened just a crack and a single arm emerged with a ticket in hand.
The conductor took it and moved on. The Albertans saw this and agreed it was quite a clever idea. Indeed, so clever they decided to do the same thing on the return trip and save some money.

That afternoon, when they got back to the station, they bought a single ticket for the return trip and watched, while to their astonishment, the three Newfies didn't buy even one ticket.
'How are you going to travel without a ticket?' asked a perplexed Albertan.
'Be watchin and learnin.' answered the three Newfie boys in unison.
When they boarded the train, the Albertain crammed themselves into a toilet and the three Newfies crammed into another toilet just down the way.
Shortly after the train began to move, one of the Newfies left the toilet and walked over to the toilet where the three Albertans were hiding.
The Newfie knocked on the door and said, 'Ticket please.'

The Power of the Rotary Logo - A Compelling Story
Posted by Charles Pretto, Incoming Governor of District 5340 in California
Charles Pretto, incoming governor of District 5340 in California, is getting asked about Rotary everywhere he goes, from his dental hygienist to grocery store clerks. He credits the lapel pin he started wearing that features the modern Rotary logo. Pretto explains how the logo, which has the word Rotary big next to the wheel, makes our organization more identifiable.
I like the Rotary logo — the one with the wheel and the word “Rotary” next to it. It’s not always a popular opinion though. Some members prefer the old Rotary wheel and continue to use it, even though it was retired nearly a decade ago. In some ways, I get it. We Rotary members can be traditionalists.
The modern Rotary logo has something that the old one doesn’t though: name recognition — literally. The word “Rotary” (or Rotaract) is in big letters. It’s easy to read and most importantly, it’s easy to identify. I experienced that difference first-hand when I started wearing the modern Rotary logo on my lapel pin.
From my dental hygienist to the person bagging my groceries, I was getting asked about Rotary everywhere. I never had this level of engagement before! You know why? Because we aren’t a big corporation like Starbucks with a logo you just know. The wheel doesn’t mean anything to the public. By adding “Rotary” to the wheel, our logo becomes much more identifiable. And because of that, I’ve had many delightful conversations with people. Some have even joined our club meetings to learn more about Rotary. It’s been a great recruitment tool.
